Crawford Kilian fonds. 1968-2000.

The fonds consists of the author's appointment books, manuscripts of both published and unpublished books, promotional material relating to books, and originals of columns written by Kilian. There are articles and other writings on education, science fiction and fantasy, cultural issues, the economy, the environment and technology; however education is the dominant topic. Writings also include early ones from the 1960s. Correspondence is mainly from the author's publishers and various agents, but there is some from associates, friends, and family. There is also material, including correspondence, pertaining to Kilian's position as an English teacher in China. Also included are radio scripts, interviews and presentations by Kilian. In most series there is both typed and handwritten material including manuscripts, drafts, edited copies and notes. There is also a cd which consists of Kilian's work in an electronic form. The fonds provides a comprehensive look into Kilian's life as an author, political activist, and educator.

Crawford Kilian was born in New York City (NYC) in 1941 and grew up in Los Angeles and Mexico City. He graduated from NYC's Columbia University in 1962, served in the US Army for a period and worked as a technical writer at the Berkeley University Laboratories. Upon his marriage, he and his wife Alice moved to Vancouver for the remainder of their lives, with the exception of 1983 when they lived in the Guangzhou province of China teaching English.
